Asian stocks reverse early declines as China optimism holds

  • Asian stock markets started the day off on the wrong foot, but reversed declines as investors pin their hopes on China.
  • China's planned stimulus for the investment sector is hoping to stave off further declines at the hands of the US-China trade war.

Asian equities started Wednesday off with losses on the board, following Wall Street's lead which posted declines in the latter half of Tuesday's trading session, but revived optimism that China's stimulus plans for their domestic stock markets rallied investors through the mid-day, punching in gains for the Asian sector, while emerging markets and the Antipodeans continue to struggle.

Australia's ASX 200 index remains in a flagging state, clipping down -0.25% on the day as Australian traders continue to fear getting crushed by a falling sky in economic fall-out leaking from the US-China trade war that still threatens to spill over the broader global marketplace, while emerging markets continue to remain at-risk from US Treasury yields and a recovering US Dollar, with the MSCI broad Asia-Pacific index declining sharply by -2.15% for Wednesday.

In Japan, the mood was notably more positive, with the Nikkei 225 index recovering to seize 0.75% for the day, with the Tokyo Topix Index also up, but less so, clocking in at 0.37%. In China investors were marginally more bullish on continued hopes that China's stock-stimulus plan s will bear fruit and help to shield Chinese equities from tradewar shocks, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closing higher by 0.85% while the Shanghai Composite 300 bourse remains in full-on recovery mode, closing 1.75% in the green for Wednesday.

Nikkei 225 levels to watch

Japan's leading Nikkei index is looking to stage a continued recovery, springboarding off of a higher low for the day from 21,890.00, but the bourse remains markedly off of the week's highs near 22,700.00, and the prevailing trend remains bearish with the 200-hour moving average resting just below the 22,340.00 resistance level.
